Carpet is available in a number of face styles such as plushes and saxonies, which use a cut-pile yarn with relatively dense construction, leaving well defined individual tufts. Loop pile carpets leave the loops as the top surface. Some carpets use a combination of the two styles called "cut and loop", with some loops remaining and taller loops cut or sheared to provide a pattern or textured look to the carpet. Berber, which is named for the leathered look of the cloaks worn by the Berber tribes of North Africa, use flecked or solid yarns to give a variety of color or tones and most commonly are in loop styles. Multi-level loops as well as cut and loop styles provide patterned looks. Frieze (pronounced "free-zay") carpets use a tightly twisted yarn to give a somewhat rough, nubby appearance to the carpet pile. Because the yarn is so tightly twisted as to curl in on itself, it can often provide better texture retention for a longer period of time in high traffic areas.
The carpet pad or cushion that you choose can make all the difference in how luxurient the carpet feels in your home, as well as affecting the life expectancy of the carpet. Paulson's uses premium carpet cushion and offers choices of thickness and density to suit your individual needs and to properly complement the type of carpet that you select.
Carpet fibers come in a variety of choices and twist values to give different look and feel to the carpet. The twist value also affects the durability and texture retention of the carpet. The higher the twist value, the heavier the traffic it can generally support. Our specialists will be happy to discuss your specific needs and help you to choose the right products for your home based on your lifestyle.
Some carpet fibers are recyclable and/or made from post-consumer recycled products. Be sure to ask about the different materials used in creating the carpet and how we strive to make less of an impact on the environment by offering products made with the future in mind and offering to recycle your old carpet instead of dumping it into landfills when we install your new carpet.
